Am I a Candidate?

A patient seeking facial rejuvenation should realize there is no same facial procedure for everyone. The plans for your surgery depend on your individual goals, degree of correction required, and unique facial structure.

We ask that our Austin area necklift candidates be in good health, not currently taking blood-thinning medications, be a non-smoker, and have reasonable expectations.

The Operation

The operation typically takes 2-3 hours and can be performed as an outpatient in our operating suite with IV anesthesia, located at Precision Plastic Surgery in Austin, TX, or in a hospital setting with general anesthesia. A small incision is made below the chin and, sometimes, additional incisions are made behind the ear.

Skin and soft tissue are carefully elevated from the underlying muscles and the muscles in the neck are tightened. Liposuction may be required to remove significant excess fat. The remaining extra skin is carefully removed.

Small drain tubes are placed at the time of surgery and removed the following day. After surgery, a person should plan to avoid any strenuous activity that will elevate the heart rate for two weeks. Special facial dressings are kept in place for 24 hours.

Commonly, a person may require combining a neck lift with a facelift or eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or brow lift. Please request a consultation with Dr. McFate to determine which procedure or procedures are appropriate for your individual needs in order to meet your goals.
